The ball belongs to whoever earned it.
A 10–11-year-old boys team built on team-first play, real development, and the Catching Fire philosophy. Everyone's the star. Or no one is.
A beginner team that plays like a unit.
The Regulators are a 10–11-year-old boys basketball team based in Rockaway, NJ. There are no set positions on this roster. Every player learns every part of the game — handling, passing, shooting, defending, rebounding — and every player is expected to read what's in front of him and react.
Our guiding principle is Catching Fire: when a teammate earns his points through the right plays — steals, rebounds, screens, assists, buckets — the whole team's job is to find him. It's basketball that stops looking like five individuals and starts looking like a team.
Four things we don't compromise on.
Team-first basketball
The ball belongs to whoever earned it. Assists, rebounds, screens, and defensive pressure count as much as buckets — sometimes more. The best teams move together.
Every kid a complete player
No positions, no specialists. Every Regulator learns to handle, pass, shoot, defend, and rebound. Full toolkits, not narrow roles.
Development over comfort
A player who only does what he's already good at is a player who isn't getting better. If you're a shooter, work on your dribble. If you're a dribbler, work on your passing.
Failing is how you grow
If you're not failing, you're not trying. This is a safe place to try hard things. Coaches aren't judging. Every player is here to develop.
Help us put them on the floor.
The boys don't have access to the town's indoor gyms, so every hour of winter practice has to be paid for. We're also entering the local travel league — the next real step up at this age — which requires us to carry team insurance. These aren't nice-to-haves. They're the difference between a legitimate program and not.
